THIS I FOUND ON A PAGE THAT A CRITIC WROTE ABOUT BRENT'S NEW MOVIE!!! CHECK IT OUT....THERE
IS 2 OF THEM:
This was one of the better films in the Tribeca film festival of 2005. The story was touching, simple, and
compelling. Donald Sutherland did an outstanding job and deserves an award for this performance. I also felt the writer wrote
a wonderful script with characters you truly cared about. I am not crazy about Joshua Jackson, who is not a very strong leading
man or actor, but he barely pulls it off. If they cast a better actor in that role, it would have been amazing. The simplicity
was the best part of this film and it proves that a powerful story is better than fancy camera work or show off directing.
I highly recommend this film. Oscar nominations for best script and for Donald's performance.
This is a great film, very moving as well as funny. I got a chance to see it at its premiere at the Tribeca
Film Festival in April, 2005. Donald Sutherland and Louise Fletcher are extraordinary as the grandparents. I didn't realize
how much I had missed seeing them act. Personally I think it's the best thing I've seen Josh Jackson do, and I plan to buy
the soundtrack if it gets released. The director is James Burke - I've not seen any of the other movies he directed but he's
really good. The pacing seemed just right, he did a great job casting the major parts and I felt he got a lot out of the secondary
actors as well. I think it's miscast as a family picture by Tribeca - it's much better and edgier than the standard family
fare and there's language use and sexuality not always appropriate for the under 13 crowd. Please note that my 12 year old
son saw it with me and loved it. I just had the urge to cover his eyes twice but I resisted. :-)

NEWS FROM JOHNNY
Well as some of you know I have returned home from parts known. over the last two weeks i have been
to the west coast and then the east coast, and went swimming in both oceans, live is grand, ok now anybody hiring
need to pay for these trips now. Anyway, i went to San Diego to watch tj graduate from the US Marine Corps basic trng
there. we, Jane, her husband Dale Paige and Dales daughter Taylor, got to spend some time out there visiting the sites
of San Diego, hell i am ready to move, a very nice clean city, and tj enjoyed the time, the zoo, the dolphins at seaworld
were paiges favorite, i want to go back and spend time in the gas lite area of downtown, it really looked great. TJ
came home for a while and i brought him back to the airport last tuesday morning. He said he was ready to go back,
how about that, i think he is starting to enjoy it, maybe lifer is born, nothing wrong with that either. Then wednesday
morning i flew out to Columbia, not the country cause i have a drug lord already, but South Carolina, to spend all
day with Aaron there at Fort Jackson SC thursday, Jane and Dale joined me there in the am, we were AJ till abut 930pm
and the next day he graduated from basic. Unlike tj, he only got a few hours of leave with us, couldn't leave the
base, so we left him about 830pm friday night. he will be there until he completes his next schooling sometime in
the first part of august. Jane and Dale and I went to the ocean got there right as the tide went out and spent about
an hour picking Paige a bunch of nice sea shells. Both trips were well worth it, and i am the proud parent of two
sons serving their country this like me will be an experience they will always remember, always. I guess i am going
to have to round up some of the old guard and we will have to visit Iraq to get that over with before my sons get
that chance..just thought you guys would like to know all this stuff...john
Hi trying to get out the word about my sons, can't find addresses they are lost in my address
book or something i just haven;t had time to see what; what. Anyway i just returned from San Diego CA where i watched
as TJ become a Marine, and it was impressive event, all the spit and polish brings back some memories.. I got to walk
the same parade ground my close high school buddy John Smith would have marched down prior to leaving for Vietnam,
although we couldn't cross that ground until our sons where Marines the next day, so i waiting for that moment although
i didn;'t speak of it at the time. TJ is home for a few days and then back to CA and after some more trainging in
his field of combat engineer he will most likely be sent to the sand box, Iraq, and he is kind of looking forward
to that i think. We did some site seeing don't know if any of the family other than maybe Brent have been to SD but
i was impressed because it was so clean, nice people, ran into a lot of people that mom and dad would have enjoyed
alot of military retirees there, and a lot of the furniture and etc is like back in the 50 & 60's . Next week
i fly to Fort Jackson SC to see AJ graduate from the ARmy and that will bring back alot of memories to, cause it will
be near FT BRagg where i went. AJ then stays right there for further trng and his guard unit is already gearing up
to return some of the troops to Iraq, he has a very close friend there on his second tour already..welll somebody
has to do it it sure won't be the politican, had to get that in there. so anyway i don't have everyone's address could
you send them again to me and forward this onto them??thanks, john/ star date:05-03-05
Dear Family, I spoke to Brent last night who had just arrived back in LA. He said his movie
was still number one according to the people's ballots and if it continued to be at the end of the festival on Sunday, the
director would receive $25,000 for the best movie award at the festival. Two studios are talking
back and forth with the movie's financial representative and one of them is Columbia Tristar. Hopefully if the movie
rights are purchased, there can be an official Minneapolis premiere. The night of the premiere at Tribeca
Film Festival was a wonderful experience. Michelle, Karissa, Maria, Mary Jo, Jared, Laura, Brent, Jenna and her mom
and brother plus Susan Coulombe and I were representatives for our family. Donald Sutherland was there and assisted
the director with the Question and Answer session after the movie. People were saying wonderful things about it, I.e.
great acting, wonderful script, etc. At the Q&A on premiere night, a producer for the play
and movie, "Chicago" said that he could not believe such a young writer was able to empathize so well with older people's
feelings about mortality and life. He also said he was choked with emotion and had a hard time thinking of questions.
He said it was a great movie for young and old alike. Brent and the director did the question and answer
session at the third showing, Tuesday. Several people asked Brent to take pictures with him and his autograph because
they knew he would become famous and they wanted to say they met him back when... At Tuesday's
showing, Brent said it was such a wonderful feeling to know that 400 people had actually paid $10 to see his movie.
He loved listening to the audience laugh and cry because of his written word. One of his good friends from Duluth attended
and was sobbing during the movie (just like some of us did at the premiere). All of us had a
wonderful time in New York. Brent and Susan Coulombe did a wonderful job of escorting us through the city. We
walked for miles and saw, just to mention a few things, Times Square, Trump Tower, Central Park, Rockefeller Plaza, Ground
Zero, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Greenwich Village, Union Square, Grand Central Station, Washington Square Park, East
Village, some saw Empire State Building, and learned how to use the subway system at least on how to get back and forth from
the hotel. We each saw a play or a musical and ate wonderful food at quaint little restaurants. All of us stayed
in two suites at the Embassy Suites, headquarters for Tribeca Film Festival, which was a block away from Ground Zero.
We paid a lot of money for restaurants near the hotel and taxis and some paid a lot of money for cigarettes ($7 a pack).
It was a grand, but exhausting, experience. Love, Carol

Dear Family and Friends, This is a forwarded message from my son, Brent, regarding
the movie he wrote that was produced in Nov-Dec, 2003. Who knows what will happen after the film festival but it's exciting
nonetheless. Usually if the movie is good, independent movies are purchased by studios after film festivals, premiered,
promoted and made available to the public. Who knows what will happen. I think we're all afraid to dream at this
point but hopefully for Brent's sake, things will take off for him. He's always writing and pitching other movies.
Not certain at this point if we will attend but Aimee and her husband, John, will be there.
Looks like a beautiful day in the neighborhood, at least the sun is shining. Hope you have a good day! Love, Carol
The major motion picture AURORA BOREALIS will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Friday
April 22nd at 8PM (apparently, Friday at 8 is a good time to screen a movie). Other screenings are Tuesday the 26th
at 4PM and Saturday the 30th at 7PM.
All screenings are at the Regal Cinema at Vesey and North End Avenue (kitty corner from the WTC site).
I don't think it's officially announced yet, but for more info about the festival in general, check

MOM SAVES LIFE!!! MOMS BDAY
Dear Family, Just thought I'd write to let you know that Mom saved a young girl in
school today. She was choking, turning red then a different color when Mom found out and performed the Heimlich Manuever
twice on her dislodging the item from her throat. You may want to write her about it. She was feeling pretty good
about it as well she should. Let's get together for Mom's 77th birthday on Saturday, March 26 at her
place. Any suggestions as to the timeframe and kind of food? Love, Carol
Dear Family, Today Kermit accepted an accounting position in Shevlin (20 min. from Bemidji on HWY 2)!
He gave his resignation letter to his boss today (after 21 years of working for the company) and will be moving back to Bemidji
for good on Feb. 11, to start at Mastec on Feb. 14! We are both very excited to know we weathered the storm and will
be together again. We are also excited to know that moving is not necessary, as we really enjoy the Bemidji area.
Thank you for your support and prayers during the past 2 years and 7 months of Kermit commuting. I
hope your day is terrific! Marlene
Hi Everyone,
Thought I would give you an update on the boys -
A.J. left on Wed. for basic training and AIT. He is at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. He will
be gone for about 6 months, after that no one knows - I don't have his address yet but I will send it as soon as I do.
T.J. has been gone for a month already. He seems to be doing well. He doesn't have a lot of free time so
the letters have been really short and we don't get a lot of information. He said that there is a video being made of his
platoon going through bootcamp. It will be on the web at www.devildogs.info so far the only thing on there is pictures of all the guys in their platoons. T.J. is in the Bravo Company,
Platoon 1061.
I'll update you again soon -
Love, Jane
